We talked to the concert’s musical director Steve Jordan, who is the drummer in Keith Richards’ other band, the X-Pensive Winos.
Jones tells CBS Local that though he’s proud of his time in the band, he “would have given anything not to have joined The Who and to have Keith [Moon] alive and kicking.”
Ian McLagan told CBS Local that the tribute tour will take place this fall. Although he said he was surprised when he was asked to participate: “I’m a Johnny Cash fan, but there’s not a lot of piano on those songs.” However, he added “We didn’t play the songs in the original style.”
Upon listening to “You Need Loving,” it’s immediately obvious that Led Zeppelin borrowed more than a little from The Small Faces. Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” released three years later, sounds remarkably similar to “You Need Loving,” and Robert Plant’s delivery has a huge Steve Marriott influence.
