“The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration” kicks off June 18 in Pittsburgh, where Haynes will be joined by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The tour will continue with two bursts of dates throughout the summer, with Haynes being accompanied by local orchestras in each of the eight cities. (Full list of performances here.)

Haynes, of course, has a history with the Grateful Dead. He played in bassist Phil Lesh’s band, Phil Lesh & Friends, for years, and produced Lesh’s 2002 album There And Back Again. He also did some time in The Dead, which featured Grateful Dead members Lesh, guitarist/singer Bob Weir, and drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann.

Haynes organizes some annual musical events — the Mountain Jam festival every summer and the Christmas jam in December — but he says this tour wasn’t his idea.

“We got a call from the people representing the Garcia Estate, saying they wanted to do a series of symphony shows doing Jerry’s music, and that they were going to have a few guest performers, and they wanted to know if I wanted to be the first guest artist,” he told Radio.com. “I was very honored.”

It turns out, Haynes had wanted to go the orchestral route for some time, but never had the right concept, until now.

“I’ve always wanted to do something with a symphony, but I never have, so it’s a really great challenge for me, and I was really psyched. I think it’s gonna be really amazing.”

Of course, a hallmark of both Garcia’s and Haynes’ music is improvisation. But how much can you improvise with an orchestra, particularly when you are performing with a different one every night?

“I felt like it was very important that we take the Grateful Dead spirit and to approach the symphonic production in a way that is different from the norm,” he explained. “I didn’t want it to be just like a symphony playing that music. We’re starting to figure out that there are ways to make it work. There are going to be certain windows that allow for improvisation. Other times, I have to keep my solos more part of the structure.”

The song was written by Harry Wayne Casey (KC of KC & The Sunshine Band) and Richard Finch, a member of KC & The Sunshine Band. The song was released on T.K. Records. One of the artists who recorded at T.K. Records was Timmy Thomas, who had a hit with “Why Can’t We Live Together?”

The organ used in that recording was left in the studio, and is the same organ you hear in “Rock Your Baby.” It’s an old Lowry organ.

“Rock Your Baby” was voted the #1 Single of the Year by Rolling Stone magazine.

Morgan Freeman caught the snooze-bug during an early-morning TV interview with Seattle Fox affiliate Q13 Fox News This Morning for his new movie Now You See Me with Michael Caine. As Caine carried the interview talking about all the tricks and magic featured in the movie, the 75-year-old Freeman appeared to doze off a few times, even doing the oh-so conspicuous head bob.

As the news station suggests, “maybe he was up too late partying,” but for whatever reason, Freeman just could not keep his eyes open during the interview.

In an interview with Woman’s Wear Daily, Gwyn says in order to stay fit and wear revealing bikinis at 40 years old she has to workout for two hours a day.

Gwyneth has just become the new face of Hugo Boss fragrance and she told WWD how she fits in the time for her demanding workout routine.

Her daily routine to staying fit and gorgeous consists of waking up at 7  a.m., feeds the kids, gets them dressed, takes them to school, then she hits the gym for an hour of intense workout followed by another hour of cardio.

Gwyn adds that she only does one film a year now so she has more time with her two kids, Apple and Moses. She calls her new modeling gig for Hugo Boss the “perfect job” as a mother because she only has to work a few days allowing more time for her family.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Ramsey has been offered a ‘free burger card’ that’s good at more than a dozen area restaurants as a thank you for his heroic actions to help bring Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight to safety earlier this month.

Ramsey became an Internet sensation after his very colorful interview depicting how he discovered Berry trapped in the house next to his. Many focused on the detail in which he noted he was eating McDonald’s just before hearing shouts come from the house.

“I heard screaming,” he said in the interview to Cleveland’s NewsNet5. “I’m eating my McDonald’s. I come outside. I see this girl going nuts trying to get out of a house. I go on the porch and she said ‘Help me get out. I’ve been here a long time.’ I figure it was domestic violence dispute.”

The restaurant even gave him a shout out on Twitter writing “We salute the courage of Ohio kidnap victims & respect their privacy. Way to go Charles Ramsey- we’ll be in touch.”

Though Ramsey said he would offer any reward money back to the victims, he has been set up with free burgers for life with the “Chuck Card” created by Scott Kuhn of the Driftwood Restaurant Group.

“We want to honor our local hero with local food,” Kuhn told the Plain Dealer “He stopped his meal midway through to help those women. We’re now making sure he has other opportunities to go out and fully enjoy his burger.”

Known only as “Dmitry” in the video, the man successfully flips 15 times on the pogo stick, breaking the previous world record of 11 held by the “world’s best extreme pogo artist” Fred Grzybowski, according to bleacherreport.

To make his extreme feat even more impressive, Dmitry makes the stunt look like a piece of cake while we’re getting dizzy just watching him.
