Kiefer Sutherland is back on TV with a new hit show where this time he’s not protecting the President like in “24,” this time he is the President, Jack Bauer 2.0.
The ABC hit show premiere outpaced Fox’s hit “Empire” giving the show huge ratings. Sutherland was doing some press on the Jess Cagle show and on the heels of Brad and Angie’s breakup, Jess asked him about his notorious breakup with Julia Roberts back in 1991.
Roberts was a real life ‘Runaway Bride’ canceling their wedding just two days before they were set to say,’ I do.’ Kiefer has never talked about it publicly until now. Twenty-five years later he is calling Julia Roberts “Brave” for calling off the wedding.
He says, “I think she had courage. It wasn’t what she wanted to do in the end, and it took a lot of courage among all of that other stuff to be able to say, I can’t do this”.
At the time rumors were swirling that Roberts was having a romance with Kiefer’s good friend actor Jason Patric. Sutherland went on to say, “We were both young, and we were both very much in love and decided to get married, but then this other thing kind of took over. She was arguably the most famous in the world, and the wedding that was supposed to be something between the two of us, became something so big.”
Julia and Kiefer fell in love on the set of the 1990 movie, ‘Flatliners’ and were supposed to be married June 14, 1991 in front of 150 guests on the 20th Century Fox’s soundstage 14.
Instead Julia reportedly spent her would-be wedding day with Jason Patric in Ireland.
