Alec Baldwin is mad as H E Double Hockey sticks.
There’s a prominent art dealer who Baldwin says knowingly sold him a fake painting, and now he wants his money back. The actor is suing Mary Boone who he says passed off a copy of Ross Bleckner’s “Sea and Mirror” as the real deal.
In fact Baldwin claims in the law suit that Boone went as far as fraudulently stamping the back of the painting with the inventory number of the original. Eventually Baldwin busted Boone who has denied duping him out of $190,000.
Baldwin said he suspected the painting was a fraud because the colors were so bright and the artwork smelled clean. Boone told him that was because the former owner was a heavy smoker so she had the painting cleaned before sending it.
Then after attending another gallery open and speaking to other art dealers who told him that no one would ever clean a painting without seeking permission from the purchaser.
Baldwin then figured out it was a fake and got Sotheby’s involved. They examined the painting and told him it was not the original he had purchased. He immediately confronted Boone who says through her attorney that Alec knew from the get go he was not getting an original.
Even so the gallery which sold him the painting has offered him a full refund, but that’s not enough. Baldwin is suing for the difference in the value of the two paintings and attorney fees. By the way congrats to the Baldwin’s yesterday, they welcomed baby number 3, Leonardo Angel Charles Baldwin.
