LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City officials hoping to bring the Olympic Games back to Los Angeles could face an uphill battle amid anti-American sentiment reportedly gaining traction among members of the International Olympic Committee.
IOC members are growing increasingly angry over what one Reuters report described as “America’s prominent role” in an investigation into doping allegations against Russian athletes.
Paris, Rome and Budapest will vie along with L.A. for the Olympic bid in a decision expected in Sept. 2017.
One IOC member reportedly told Reuters L.A. “will face some consequences” due to the Justice Department’s investigation into alleged Russian doping on U.S. soil.
Casey Wasserman, the head of L.A.’s 2024 bid team, told Reuters the IOC vote should not take into consideration any investigations unrelated to the bid.
