Meat Loaf Announces New Album ‘Braver Than We Are’

By Amanda Wicks

Meat Loaf (a.k.a. Marvin Lee Aday) will be releasing a new album in September. Titled Braver Than We Are, the project marks Meat’s fourth collaboration with songwriter Jim Steinman.

Meat Loaf and Steinman previously worked together on  the classic debut Bat Out of Hell and the huge hit sequel, Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell. Rather than hiding in the wings with this latest album, Steinem is featured much more prominently. Not only does the album art include a line attributing the songwriting to him, but he’s painted standing next to Meat Loaf.

“It’s a tribute to Jim Steinman really,” said Meat Loaf in a press release. “It’s a tribute to both of us and our work together.”

The 10-track Braver Than We Are contains the very first song Steinman ever wrote, and also includes newly written material. The album’s first single “Going All The Way” is a melodramatic rock opera featuring singers Ellen Foley and Karla DeVito. Foley sang on Bat Out Of Hell‘s “Paradise By the Dashboard Light” while DeVito appeared in the song’s music video and later toured with Meat Loaf.  The album was produced by Paul Crook, a former member of Anthrax; it’s probably not a coincidence that Anthrax leader Scott Ian is married to Meat Loaf’s daughter, Pearl Aday.

Braver Than We Are drops September 16. Check out the tracklist below.
