Lisa Stanley Recaps The 2016 Billboard Music Awards

Lots of great moments last night from the Billboard Music Awards, jammed packed, full of memorable performance, amazing duets and touching tributes throughout the night.

It was Britney Spears who kicked off the show, sleighing it in her glittery stage ensemble and toxic moves, she mesmerized the crowds transporting us back to 2001, reminding us 15 years later she is  still the “Princess of Pop.”

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton put their love on display singing their duet “Go Ahead and Break My Heart. ”

The Weeknd was the biggest winner of the night taking home eight awards, the most of any male artist since 2011.

Kesha received a standing ovation for her performance. She stole the crowds heart as did Celine Dion, who just four months after she lost her husband performed. After her performance her 15-year-old son Renee Charles presented her with her Icon Award.

And to close the show there was a moment of silence to honor Prince, then Madonna and Stevie Wonder paid tribute to the purple one.  I thought it was a good performance, but some people did not.  In fact days before the show there was a change.org petition against Madonna as the only performer paying tribute to Prince, so maybe that is why Stevie Wonder was with her.

There was lots of criticism after the performance with people calling it “Soulless.”
