We see actors portray all kinds of characters and situations on screen, but what happens when you take the actor out to face real challenges in the wilderness? That’s what renowned survivalist and all around outdoors man Bear Grylls is set to find out on his new show Running Wild With Bear Grylls Monday nights on NBC.
Calling in “from a little island off the Welsh coast in the UK,” Bear talks about his new show fans are all raving about, because we get to see our favorite celebrities in situations unlike we’ve ever seen them in before. Fans have long watched Bear on TV teaching us how to survive in dangerous situations in the wild for quite some time now, but how did he convince all these A-list celebs to join him on his adventures?
“We put our dream list together and we got lucky, they all wanted to do it,” he said. “These guys don’t need the fame or money, but I think it’s a great chance for them to do something real and to prove to themselves they still got it and they can do these things and go out into demanding, tough environments and survive.”
Last week, Bear roughed it with Zac Efron, but in tonight’s episode, he takes actor/director Ben Stiller out into the “rugged mountains of the Isle of Skye in Northern Scotland to go on a once in a lifetime adventure. As they explore their surroundings Bear tests Ben’s limits in an effort to see how he measures up to the unpredictable and unforgiving challenges of Mother Nature,” according to the show’s website.
So how does Ben Stiller fare alongside Bear? Well, let’s just say he got a little does of the Bear Grylls insanity.
“They’re a bit nervous before the show and they go, ‘am I going to die?’ and I always go ‘no it’s going to be fun,’ and the thing is, it is fun, but there is a little bit of pain thrown in there as well,” he said.
Though this season only features on woman celebrity on the show with MSNBC/Today anchor Tamron Hall, Bear says man or woman, these celebs have been loving getting their hands dirty.
“The thing is, girls or boys, we all love to kind of unleash a little bit and get mucky. It’s good for the soul,” he said.
