The former producer of American Idol and current producer of So You Think You Can Dance, Nigel Lythgoe joined us on the phone this morning to talk about tonight’s elimination episode of the top 16 contestants.
“We’re going to be going down to four teams. We started off so well with twenty, we didn’t want to lose anybody and now it’s just getting closer and closer,” he said.
Season after season, we’ve seen many contestants who try out and not make it in the finals only to come back to audition each year. We asked Nigel is there are any in the top 16 this year that went out, trained and came back and got on the show?
“We’ve got a couple of people. Certainly Serge [Onik] has been there for three years now,” he said. “The greatest story of that for me was Twitch, who for four years tried out and tried out and finally got in and became this incredible commercial dancer everyone wants to use now.”
In addition to hosting SYTYCD, Nigel is busy gearing up for National Dance Day this Saturday, July 26th at the Music Center in downtown LA. NDD “encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and fight obesity.”
There will be plenty of activities for the kids and of course plenty of dance! For more information, visit dizzyfeetfoundation.org.
