Known as the most outspoken and unpredictable of all the entire Jackson dynasty, La Toya Jackson is sharing her world with fans through her hit reality series Life With La Toya on the OWN network. Now in its second season, big things are happening in La Toya’s life and this morning she joined us on air to get us up to speed with her recent engagement and what’s on her plate next!
In the last episode, La Toya was surprised by her hubby Jeffré Phillips, who popped the big question while on vacation in Hawaii. She caught us up with where the next episode will pick up after this exciting moment.
“For those who didn’t know, I just left Hawaii, Jeffré has just proposed to me, and I’m rushing to New York to do a play that I have two days to learn all the dialogue, all the new music all the songs and everything, and I’m nervous as heck,” she explained.
Her now fiance, Jeffré, was a powerhouse executive at CBS Records and now has his own company. He’s known and worked with the Jacksons for 20 years now, and La Toya says it’s because of their longtime friendship that it evolved into a relationship.
“You know why he’s so perfect for me, he knows me, we’re best friends,” she said. “It makes it so much easier. He was everything I wanted in a man, and it’s funny because it’s right there before your eyes and you don’t realize sometimes.”
Before her reality series offered a personal glimpse into her life, many fans only knew La Toya from the headlines they read. Of course no stranger to the headlines, La Toya and the entire Jackson family are used to constant scrutiny by the news and public. Because of this exposure, La Toya says many people often make assumptions about her and her family that are simply untrue, which is why she wanted to let the cameras into her life so people can see the real her. So what’s one of the biggest misconceptions outsiders have about La Toya?
“The biggest misconception would be…she’s crazy, she’s insane, you know all those things that they say,” she said. “In a sense it was, but it wasn’t hard to open my life, because I felt that’s something that was needed, because people think they know you and they don’t. Once you walk in my shoes, once you learn me, know you can judge me and tell me what you think of me.”
Now starring in her own successful reality series, celebrating a recent engagement and a new film she executive produced with Nigel Lithgoe called Dancing With Jaffe, this is La Toya’s year to shine.
“It is the best time in my life because I’m happy and I’m content, and I would encourage anybody, find the person you’re just a soulmate to,” she gushed.
