As we’re sure many of you are aware, the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Final on Friday to win their second championship in three years.
Following a long Stanley Cup tradition, the mayors from each of the rival cities set up a little wager on the finals, and New York mayor Bill de Blasio delivered his end of the bargain on TV Monday night.
Making NY’s loss to the Kings sting even more, Blasio appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Monday wearing an ‘I Love LA’ shirt to uncomfortably sing Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” after losing the bet to L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti. He appeared via a satellite feed from Times Square to sing the L.A. anthem with NY’s 52nd Street Project school choir.
Kimmel also welcomed Mayor Garcetti and Kings players Justin Williams and Alec Martinez to the show Monday night to talk about the Stanley Cup win.
