You know him from his many roles like Luigi in Super Mario Bros., Tybalt Capulet in Romeo + Juliet and of course the voice of Sid the Sloth in Ice Age, and now comedian/actor John Leguizamo joined us on the phone this morning to talk about his latest role in Jon Favreau’s foodie film, Chef.
In the film, John plays a line cook who is later promoted to Sous Chef by Favreau’s character. Then his character later teams up with Favreau to develop the idea for his food truck after he loses his job. He tells us what it was like working with Favreau on the film.
“I had so much fun with that dude. He’s so generous, so amazingly talented,” he said of working with Jon Favreau. “He wanted to go back to the indie film circuit that he loves, which are character-driven films.”
John tells us that the cast and crew traveled all over the country to film this movie, including Austin, Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles and set up shop at the best restaurants in the cities.
“We were just eating all day long,” he said.
John tells us the movie has an uplifting message about making the best out of difficult situations that we’re faced with in life.
“Everybody struggles in life. We have our ups and downs, and there comes a point, a crossroads in our life where you gotta figure out am I going to continue doing what I’m doing now, or am I going to become my own boss?” he said.
Chef is in theaters now! Listen to our complete interview with John Leguizamo in the clip below where he shares his memories of working with the late, great Bob Hoskins in Super Mario Bros.
