Already a soap star, hit singer and recent Hollywood Walk of Famer, Rick Springfield is now adding best selling author to his long list of accomplishments with his debut novel, Magnificent Vibration.

This morning, Rick called in to talk a little bit about the inspiration of his book, which was created based off his own conversations with God.

“I had a lot of questions, like everybody does, and it just started out with a conversation with God and kind of went from there,” Rick explains. “It’s an extreme novel. It begins with the guy having a conversation with God – he finds his phone number in a book that he steals – and apparently God’s got a bit of an attitude with the way we’ve been handling his beautiful planet and messing it up.”

Rick continues that the main character, named Bobby, meets a nun “who’s in a crisis of faith” and they embark on a quest to find salvation and possibly save the world.

“It’s definitely dark comedy, the whole book, but it does have a heart and it does have a point to it,” he added.

In between promoting his new book, Rick is still busy touring with his band, and has a show coming up in Las Vegas at the Star of the Desert Arena in Primm Valley Casino Resorts on June 14th. He tells us they’re always rotating the set list with a blend of new and classic songs, and even a heavy version of Katy Perry’s “Roar.”

Back in the ’80s, Rick obviously was bombarded with screaming female fans at his shows, and even to this day his fanbase is just as wild as ever, though maybe a just a little quieter.

“The shows, you can hear yourself play now, which is great” he joked, laughing that he still gets the screaming fans throwing their underwear at him on stage. Looks like Dr. Noah Drake’s still got it.

Even after all these years, Rick tells us that he hasn’t gotten sick of playing his signature No.1 hit “Jessie’s Girl” at shows.

“I’m very proud to have written a song that has that kind of staying power,” he said, adding “[Jessie] was a girlfriend of a friend of mine…they moved away before the song came out so she never knew it was about her.”

A recent recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rick has cemented his place in music history. He even has a personal connection to the location of his star saying “I actually used to live about two blocks from where the star is when I first came over from Australia. I stayed on Poinsettia Ave., which is just off of Hollywood Blvd.”
