Smokey Robinson Enlists ‘Friends’ Elton John, James Taylor & More For Duets Album

Having been in the business for 50+ years, Smokey Robinson has certainly built up his repertoire of famous friends over the years, and now he’s bringing them all together for a duets album of his greatest hits.

Billboard reports that Smokey has enlisted an all-star roster of guest artists for a duets project titled Smokey & Friends due out this September.

Smokey has teamed up with famous friends including Elton John, James Taylor, plus many more contemporary and classic artists on his most beloved hits spanning his solo career, his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group, The Miracles, as well as hits he wrote for others, including Marvin Gaye and The Temptations.

John will harmonize on Smokey’s No.2 hit “Track Of My Tears,” which he calls “the greatest pop song ever written,” while Taylor will sing with Smokey on Gaye’s signature hit “Ain’t That Peculiar.” No other guest artists have been announced as of yet.

Elton recently spoke about his collaboration with Smokey on the project, saying that as a teenager collecting his albums, he never dreamed that one day he’d “perform with him on stage or make a duet with him. That’s something you don’t even dream of when you’re that young.”
