‘Grease Live’ Coming To TV
Following in the footsteps of NBC’s The Sound Of Music Live, Fox is bringing the beloved movie/musical Grease as a live television production in 2015!
According to L.A. Times, live event tentatively called Grease Live will take the story of the hit 1971 Broadway musical turned movie and recast it with a brand new ensemble. The story set in the ’50s follows a group of teens at Rydell High School focusing on the summer fling between a greaser and the girl-next-door, Danny and Sandy.
John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John famously portrayed the young couple in the 1978 movie adaptation, who sang and danced into the hearts of America with hit songs like “Hopelessly Devoted To You” and “You’re The One That I Want.”
With the live retelling, Fox says it will base the music off the original Broadway production, but will incorporate the hit songs featured in the movie version. The also say they want to “reimagine” some of the classic characters and moments from the story for the live event.
According to the L.A. Times, Shana C. Waterman, senior vice president of event series for FOX said of Grease, “Its iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for Fox, and we’re going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along.”
Now the only thing left to answer is, who should be cast as Danny and Sandy? Tell us who you’d like to see in the roles in the comments below!
