Corbin Bleu ‘Nervous’ For The Toyota Grand Prix Pro-Celeb Race Day
If you’ve been listing for the past month or so, you may have heard us talking about our own Lisa Stanley set to compete in the Toyota Grand Prix Pro-Celebrity Race on April 12th in Downtown Long Beach.
One of the young stars from High School Musical, Corbin Bleu is also competing in the race along with Lisa and fellow celebs including Ardien Brody, Phil Keoghan, Carmelita Jeter and pros Al Unser Jr. and more. He joined us on the phone this morning to talk about preparing for race day this Saturday.
“I’m getting so scared,” he said about race day. “It’s the coolest thing ever. The actual practices, you get a chance to drive a car like no one else – I really am so much of a better driver now. But when it comes to the actual race, I’m getting so nervous, because you’re out there and you have all that adrenaline pumping and you got a wall that comes up real quick and you got all those other drivers like a swarm of bees around you – it is very intense and very scary.”
To make matters worse, Corbin only just learned how to drive a shift during the training sessions for the race.
“I just learned how to shift – I picked it up real quick,” he said, laughing, “They put us on the track and they said ‘okay, get in the car, now follow the instructor’ and I was like ‘I don’t know how to work the car.’ ”
Corbin does have a edge on other drivers from his time competing on Dancing With The Stars. While you may think what does dancing have to do with racing – Corbin explains that the two do have one thing in common – endurance.
“It’s a lot of stamina…you’re violently moving, shifting back and forth from each side when you’re turning. You kind of have to those core muscles and by the time you get out of the car, you’re sweating. It’s a workout,” he said.
