‘The Simpsons’ Pay Tribute To David Letterman

After David Letterman announced his retirement from The Late Show last week, many fans were disappointed to hear the longtime late night host will no longer be on their TV sets. Dozens have paid tribute to Dave in the days following his announcement, even TV’s favorite dysfunctional family – The Simpsons.

Before Sunday night’s episode of The Simpsons, the cartoon paid tribute to Letterman with an extended couch gag bit that featured the family racing through the streets of Manhattan to attend a taping as guests on The Late Show.

As a grumpy animated Letterman sits and waits for the family to arrive, he questions “What are we doing here? Is this the thing where the family runs in and sits down?”

When the Simpsons finally show up and take their seats on that iconic brown couch, an obviously peeved Letterman exclaims “we flew you in for that? I think we’re done here. Paul?”

Cue Paul and the Late Show Band who play off the family with The Simpsons theme song before cutting to a heartfelt message that read “We’ll miss you, Dave.”
