Aretha Franklin Throws Star-Studded 72nd Birthday Bash, Reveals Details On New Album
Over the weekend, the Queen of Soul proved she has no signs of slowing down anytime soon as she celebrated her 72nd birthday (which isn’t until March 25th) in style with some of Hollywood’s biggest players.
Aretha Franklin threw a grand birthday bash at New York City’s Ritz Carlton Hotel Saturday night, ringing in her special day with a close group of friends that included record exec Clive Davis, Denzel Washington, Congressman Charles Rangel and Judge Mathis, reports Rolling Stone.
During the celebrations, Franklin spoke to Rolling Stone about her upcoming concept album in the works (executive produced by Davis), where she’ll cover prominent female singers over generations including Barbara Streisand, Donna Summer and possibly Beyonce.
She revealed that she’s partnered with hip hop artist and star of the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic All Is By My Side, Andre 3000 to help produce the tracks along with R&B star Babyface.
“Andre 3000 is going to be aiding in producing some of the tracks,” Franklin told Rolling Stone. “I love everything he does. He’s got a groove that I really, really like.”
Franklin adds that she’s just waiting for Babyface, who is guest-starring in the Broadway musical After Midnight until March 30th, to finish up the tracks so she can get to work recording. She’s also toying with the idea of covering Destiny’s Child tracks “Bootylicious” or “Survivor” for the album because of her admiration of Beyonce.
The Queen of Soul is aiming for a June release of her new album, and if her glitzy birthday bash is any indication for the future, she’s going to partying for many more years to come!
