As many K-EARTH 101 listeners know, Shotgun Tom Kelly is currently in the hospital recovering from a quadruple bypass surgery he had over the weekend. This morning, Shotgun’s wife, Linda, called in to The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show to give us an update on how he’s doing.
“He is also doing fantastic. It’s amazing. I mean, what a trooper,” she said, noting that he isn’t wearing his signature ranger hat while in the hospital. “No, I didn’t bring it to him, although he did request it.”
Linda explained how the whole ordeal happened, saying that Shotgun went in for his semi-annual checkup with his cardiologist. Next thing they knew, Shotgun was on his way into surgery.
“Unbeknownst to me, he was experiencing this pressure on his chest. He walks to K-EARTH every day and he would experience this pressure and then it would go away,” she said, adding that Tom told his doctor about this symptom. “Boom, red flag…this is not good. So they immediately decided that he had better go in.”
At first the surgery was going to be a triple bypass surgery, but turned into a quadruple after finding more blockage.
“I was in shock…they took him in early in the morning on Saturday. He was in surgery for six hours. It’s a hard wait,” she said.
Fortunately, the surgery was successful and the doctors had Shotgun up and sitting in a chair just three hours after the surgery.
Now the question everyone is wondering – when will Shotgun be back on K-EARTH 101?
“Probably in the next two weeks,” she said.
Of course, we’ll keep you updated with the latest on Shotgun’s condition and when he will return to K-EARTH 101. Listen to our complete conversation with Shotgun’s wife Linda in the clip below!
