From one Saturday Night Live star to another, Chevy Chase is passing the torch of his iconic role as ‘Fletch’ to fellow SNL alum Jason Sudekis for a planned reboot of the comedy classic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sudekis nabbed the starring role as the Los Angeles investigative journalist (I.M. Fletcher) in a planned Warner Bros. remake Fletch Won.

The film is based on the series of mystery novels written by Gregory McDonald. Chase first brought the role of Irwin ‘Fletch’ Fletcher to the big screen in the 1985 comedy Fletch and its sequel Fletch Lives in 1989.

The premise of Fletch Won is described as “gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with McDonald’s novels than the Chase movies” according to THR.

In addition to spending 10 years on SNL, Sudekis has had a successful string of box office hits over recent years, including the comedies Horrible Bosses and We’re The Millers, both of which are getting sequels.

What do you think of the planned remake of the comedy classic? Do you think Jason Sudekis will be able to fill Chevy Chase’s shoes as the new Fletch?
