One of the highest-rated cable TV shows right now is AMC’s suspenseful drama series The Walking Dead, and joining us this morning is one of the show’s newest characters, Josh McDermitt.

Josh’s character Dr. Eugene Porter was just introduced on the show last week, and explains in a little more detail what his role is all about.

“Last week was the first full episode where we got to know the characters were…we’re traveling to D.C. – my character knows what caused the zombie apocalypse, he knows how to stop it,” Josh explained. “He’s got a military man, Sgt. Abraham Ford, and another companion, Rosita Espinoza – they’re traveling with me and trying to protect me and get me to D.C. to stop this thing.”

Fans of the show know that the ‘zombies’ on the show are never actually referred to as zombies by the characters. As Josh explains, “They don’t ever call them zombies. They’re walkers, biters, lurkers, every word except zombie…we as a viewing audience know that they’re called zombies, and it’s just easier for me to call them that.”

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9pm on AMC. Listen to our full conversation with Josh McDermitt to hear more about his role on The Walking Dead and more in the clip below.
