Rock legends including John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin are among the subjects of upcoming collectible postage stamps released by the United States Postal Service, according to a list obtained by The Washington Post.
The USPS plans to release numerous celebrity and pop culture adorned commemorative stamps over the next two years including ones featuring Apple founder Steve Jobs, NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain, gay rights activist Harvey Milk, soul legend James Brown and a re-release of Elvis Presley’s 1993 29-cent stamp, the Postal Service’s highest-selling stamp ever.
Other highlights include stamp tributes honoring late night icon Johnny Carson, actor Charlton Heston, and fictional characters like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, the Peanuts gang and Hanana-Barbara characters.
Stamps featuring Hendrix, Joplin, Chamberlain, Milk, various celebrity chefs and more are slated for release in 2014, while ones with Carson, Brown, Presley and the Peanuts gang will see a 2015 release. Though, a rep noted to the Post that planned figures are “subject to change at any time.”
