The Jacksons Ready First New Album In 25 Years
As The Jacksons prepare to take Las Vegas by storm, kicking off a 40 show residency at Planet Hollywood on Feb. 20, the brothers of the classic soul group are also planning on releasing new music soon.
In an interview with Billboard, Jackie Jackson talks about the brothers’ upcoming Las Vegas residency and plans to release their first new album since 1989’s 2300 Jackson Street hopefully by early summer.
“I’m so happy all the brothers will be together in Las Vegas. During the day time they can finish recording and then do the shows during the evening time,” Jackie told Billboard, noting that he, Tito, Jermaine and Marlon have at least half of the album recorded.
The brothers have been hard at work on the album since their 2012-2013 Unity Tour ended, and Jackie notes fans can expect to hear The Jacksons’ signature soul sound with a little modern flair on the new album.
“It sounds like Jacksons music, with today’s sounds,” Jackie explains. “People still want to hear that Jackson 5 harmony; we can’t get away from where we came from. That’s what they want to hear. But there’s a lot of new flavors we can combine that with. Something like Bruno Mars’ ‘Treasure,’ that’s like on old Jacksons song. When I first heard that song I said, ‘That could have been on one of ours!’ ”
For The Jacksons residency in Sin City, Jackie notes that the show will have a similar formula as their 2012-2013 Unity Tour, but with more personal story-telling. They’ll also sing all The Jackson 5 soul hits, as well as some of the big hits made famous by their late brother, Michael Jackson.
“There’s going to be a lot of storytelling in this how was well, telling stories that you’ve never heard before,” Jackie promises. “There’ll be some significant stories about the Jacksons — what Michael used to do, what we all did. That’s all I can say. But it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
