Host of the hottest new daytime talk show on CBS2/KCAL9, Queen Latifah is certainly reigning over her second stint hosting The Queen Latifah Show.

The Queen herself called in to The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show to tell us what it’s like being back in the TV spotlight the second time around after her previous run from 1999-2001.

“Completely different. Obviously still the same amount of work require,” she said. “It’s more celebrity driven, chef driven, real story driven, much more kind of upbeat in general.”

Because so many have tried and failed at hosting a daytime talk show in the past, we asked what’s her secret to thriving with this kind of show? Latifah says that it’s all about relating to your audience.

“We’re going to spend a lot of time together, so people do have to feel comfortable with you and have an idea what on earth the show is,” she said.

One of Queen’s hilarious segments on the show is ‘FYI with Aunt Esther Jean Johnson’ where Queen’s ‘aunt’ gives advice to fan questions. Our own Lisa Stanley asked Aunt Esther her own question on how to deal with a co-worker who doesn’t wear deodorant.

“She just said ‘send him over here.’ She got common sense enough to know what to do with a funky man,” she quipped.

With so many big name celebrity and musical guests appearing regularly on her show, we asked Latifah what kind of music she listens to on her own time.

“Different music at different times, I think Gospel music would inspire me the most,” she said. “I mean I listen to so much music. I listen to classic rock, I usually listen alternative every day…electronic hip hop.”

And there’s one radio station that’s saved on her dial – K-EARTH 101.

“I need the classics. I need to just vibe,” she said while singing K-EARTH 101’s jingle.

You can catch The Queen Latifah Show weekdays at 2pm on CBS2 and an encore broadcast at 7pm on KCAL9.
