Samuel L. Jackson Goes Off On Local Reporter After Being Confused For Laurence Fishburne
In what will likely go down as one of the most awkward interviews in TV history, actor Samuel L. Jackson went off on KTLA 5 entertainment reporter Sam Rubin when he confused him for actor Laurence Fishburne.
During a live satellite interview Monday morning to talk about Jackson’s new film Robocop, Rubin accidentally mixed-up the actor with Fishburne when he asked whether he got a lot of reaction to his Super Bowl commercial.
After a long pause and a gradual deer-in-headlights look on Rubin’s face after he realized his mistake, Jackson responded, “what Super Bowl commercial? You’re as crazy as the people on Twitter. I am not Laurence Fishburne!”
Rubin tried to steer the conversation back to his movie Robocop, but the damage was already done. Jackson was having none of it. He then went on to describe all the differences between himself from Fishburne.
“There’s more than one black guy doing commercials. I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet?’ black guy,” Jackson said, referring to his Capital One commercials. “He’s the car black guy — Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy. You only hear his voice though, so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne.”
Rubin later apologized after the interview saying, “I’m really embarrassed about it, and I very much apologize to Samuel L. Jackson and anyone else who was offended for what was a very amateur mistake.”
