For the first time ever in Super Bowl history, an opera singer was chosen for the honor of performing the National Anthem during the pregame festivities.
Four-time Grammy award winning opera singer Renee Fleming performed a traditional rendition “Star Spangled Banner” in front of millions on Sunday, accompanied by a military choir and string section.
According to Billboard, NFL announcer Joe Buck said he “never heard it sung any better” just after Fleming hit that last big note, which she attacked with ease.
