Actor/comedian Bill Hader is best known for being one of the featured performers on Saturday Night Live, and this morning, Hader called in to The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show to talk about his time on the show, plus his work in the animated feature Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs!

Before he joined the cast of SNL, Hader explains that he worked in entertainment doing odd jobs in TV and film as a production assistant, assistant editor and sketch comedy shows at Second City Theater on Melrose where he would wind up getting his big break.

While performing at Second City, Hader was discovered by Will & Grace actress/comedian Megan Mullally, who made a call to Lorne Michaels of SNL.

“Megan was nice enough to call Lorne and said ‘you should see this guy in L.A.’…and totally changed my life,” said Hader. “I didn’t even have a manager or an agent when I met [Lorne].”

While on SNL, Hader became known for doing incredible impressions of oddball characters like Vincent Price, Al Pacino and Brian Grazer, which he says was really just him wearing a wig. After spending eight years on the show, Hader announced his retirement after the 2013 season, and explains that there are certain things he misses about being on the high-pressure show.

“You’re really just thrown in to the fray and every week is different…there’s a new problem ever week,” he said. “I don’t miss, as you mentioned, the pressure, and I like being able to sleep and seeing my family every night. But I do miss all the folks there…all the people, the crew.”

Hader has now moved on to doing more movies, including his starring role as the character ‘Flint Lockwood’ in the Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs animated series. Now a father of two, he said that his kids were part of the reason he took on the role in the sequel, but he was also excited to join an animated cast.

“I’m a huge fan of animated movies, so for the first one, we didn’t have kids yet, so I was just excited to be part of the animated movie,” said Hader. “The process takes so long, by the time the first one came out – the first one came out the week that my daughter was born.”

He also says his children are big fans of the film saying they’re “obsessed” with the character Berry in the second film.
