Comedian Gabriel Iglesias was our special guest this morning on The K-EARTH 101 Morning Show! Calling in from Florida, noting that he was just 30 minutes away from where Justin Bieber was arrested, Gabriel talked about what it was like working on the new animated movie The Nut Job.

The Nut Job opened in theaters last week and made an impressive $30 million over opening weekend, and now Gabriel reveals that they’re already looking to make a sequel. The movie is about a squirrel who breaks into a nut shop to steal nuts so he can feed all his buddies.

In the movie, Gabriel plays Jimmy the Groundhog, and tells Gary that he didn’t even need to go through the audition process to be part of the film.

“Usually I do character voices, but when they approached me they said we just want you to be yourself, we want your stinkin’ voice so everyone knows it’s you in the movie,” he said.

Gabriel is just one of the many stars voicing characters in the movie, joining Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Liam Neeson, Maya Rudolph, Katherine Heigl and more. However, Gabriel notes that he didn’t even meet the rest of the cast until the red carpet premiere.

“Everybody’s separate. You walk in there, and maybe run into somebody in the parking lot,” he joked. “All these great people are in the film, but I didn’t get to see any of them until the day of the red carpet.”

So what’s the next project in the works for Gabriel? He’s recording a new comedy special next month that’s going to theaters called The Fluffy Movie. He’ll also be performing at the Melrose Improv on Jan. 31st and Feb. 1st, as well as the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara Feb. 22nd.
