Aretha Franklin, Berry Gordy Named 2014 BET Honorees

With the 2014 award season well under way, it was announced Thursday that legendary singer Aretha Franklin and famed Motown founder Berry Gordy will receive a special tribute as this year’s honorees at the BET Honors.

Joining Franklin and Berry on the list of honorees includes rapper/actor Ice Cube, American Express CEO Ken Chenault and photographer and video artist Carrie Mae Weems, reports Billboard.

Established in 2008, the BET Honors recognizes the achievements of African-Americans in areas of music, literature, entertainment, education and more. Past honorees include Alicia Keys, Magic Johnson, Whitney Houston, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Halle Berry among many more.

The BET Honors will be hosted by actor/comedian Wayne Brady for an evening of tributes and musical performances honoring all the honorees. Performers for the ceremony have yet to be announced.

The ceremony takes place at Warner Theatre in Washington on Feb. 8. with the televised broadcast airing on Monday, February 24th at 9 p.m. on BET.
