LA Public Libraries To Re-Open On Sundays By Popular Demand

Something very exciting is happening this weekend at various Los Angeles Public Libraries as many locations are set to re-open on Sunday afternoons by popular demand.

On Jan. 12th, numerous library locations will mark the grand re-openings with ribbon cutting ceremonies and special events including family story times, movie screenings, exhibits, face painting and plenty of entertainment for the entire family to enjoy.

See the list below of locations celebrating the grand re-opening:

Arroyo Seco:
1:15 p.m. Storytime with councilmember & puppet show: The Monkey and the Crocodile (Indian Folktale)
1:30 p.m. Crafts: Make reptile paper bag puppets
2 p.m. Thor Reptile Family Program
3 p.m. STAR readers story time with Grandma Silverlocks
3 p.m. Family film screening for all ages
all day Exhibit: Reptile books and information about grand re-opening
Exhibit: Math books collection

Exposition Park:
1 p.m. Face Painting with Marquita
1:30 p.m. Storytime with councilmember or librarian
2 p.m. Thor’s Reptiles: arthropods, amphibians and reptiles of all sizes
all day Crafts for children
all day STAR volunteers reading to children

Goldwyn Hollywood:
1:30 p.m. Storytime with councilmember or children’s librarian
2 p.m. Magic Show with Tony Daniels
3 p.m. Screening of Samuel Goldwyn documentary
all day Exhibit: Historic Hollywood

Mid-Valley:
1 p.m. Storytime with councilmember or children’s librarian
1:15 p.m. World Music Sing Along with Thalia and her guitar
1:45 p.m. Face painting
2:30 p.m. Magic Show with Allen Oshiro

North Hollywood:
1 p.m. Storytime with Councilmember Paul Krekorian
2 p.m. Puppet show by Swazzle, a comical retelling of Aesop’s fable “The Grasshopper and the Ant”
3 p.m. STAR volunteer will read stories to children
all day Exhibit: Historic photos of the North Hollywood community from the Valley Times

San Pedro:
1 p.m. Geebo the Clown
2 p.m. Storytime with councilmember or children’s librarian
2 p.m. Face painting with Kamara Shephard
2:30 p.m. Teen Game Tournament featuring X-Box 360, refreshments and prizes
3:30 p.m. Storytime with children’s librarian

West LA:
1:30 p.m. Storytime with councilmember or children’s librarian
2 p.m. Bubblemania: the fun and science of bubbles
3 p.m. Family film screening with popcorn

West Valley:
1 p.m. Storytime with councilmember or children’s librarian
2 p.m. Ahoy Me Matey’s: pirate magic show with audience participation, sword fighting, pirate music, talk like a pirate lessons, pirate stories and more
3 p.m. Storytelling with STAR volunteer
