The new year is a chance for a fresh start and new leash on life, and for one university the new year means taking a look at some of the overused words and phrases that should be banished from our vernacular forever and ever.
Lake Superior State University unveiled its 39th annual “List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness” on Tuesday, compiled from more than 2,000 nominations all year long to come up with the top 12 that should be banned in 2013.
The list, released every New Year’s Eve, started on Dec. 31, 1975 and has previously “banned” words like baby bump, viral, epic, bromance, game changer and many more.

- Mister Mom
- On steroids
- Suffixes: Ban all use of adding overused suffixes to describe events including ‘-ageddon,’ and ‘-pocalypse.’
- Intellectually/Morally Bankrupt
- Fan Base
