Forbes Magazine has released its annual end of the year list for the Most Overpaid Actors of 2013, and topping the list is funnyman Adam Sandler.
According to Forbes, Sandler earned the top spot because his last two films (Jack & Jill and That’s My Boy), which flopped at the box office. He returned an estimated average of just $3.40 for every dollar he earned.
Coming in a close second to Sandler is actress Katherine Heigl, who returned $3.50 for every dollar she earned, and rounding out the top three is girl next door Reese Witherspoon. She returned $3.90 for every dollar she earned starring in smaller budget films like Mud.
Nicolas Cage appeared at number four on the list, returning $6 for every dollar he earned and comedian Kevin James came in at number five returning $6.10 for every dollar he pocketed from his film Here Comes The Boom.
Forbes calculates the most overpaid actors in Hollywood by examining the last three films of each star over the past three years up until June 2013. They take the actor’s pay, film budget and expenses into account to work out the average return on investment.
