This morning we welcomed Beach Boys’ Mike Love on the phone to talk about the group’s upcoming Beach Boys Christmas Show at Segerstrom Center For The Arts this Saturday, Dec. 7th.
You can’t go through the Christmas season without hearing the many harmonizing classics from the beloved Beach Boys’ Christmas Album. Love tells us that the holiday season played a big part in the conception of the Beach Boys and ultimately that album because that time of the year always brought him and his cousins together.
“Even years before we became the Beach Boys, it was just a family affair that was built around Christmas,” he said. “Everybody in the family would get together and we’d do Christmas caroling…so it was just a natural thought process to do a Christmas album.”
For the show this Saturday, Love promises to perform all those holiday classics, as well as the group’s original holiday songs, “Little Saint Nick,” “Santa Claus Had A Hot Rod” and “Santa’s Beard” that have now become Christmas standards every year.
