It’s that time of the year when holiday ads start to roll out on TV and the web to get ready for the shopping season. One ad in particular this year that’s gaining a lot of attention is Kmart’s controversial men’s boxer commercial titled ‘Show Your Joe.’
The commercial features a row of men stripped down to their Joe Boxer shorts and shaking their ‘jingle bells’ to the melody of the classic holiday tune.
The ad has received mixed reviews since it was released with critics calling it “tasteless” while others find the ad amusing and no worse than many of the Victoria’s Secret ads that are seen each year.
According to New York Daily News, Kmart issued a statement after complaints started coming in on their company’s social media pages, saying “This commercial is a playful take on spreading holiday cheer. We regret if you found it objectionable.”
Offensive or not, Kmart’s ad has definitely gone viral since being posted on Nov. 15th, racking up nearly 7 million views.
This isn’t the first time Kmart has caused an uproar over their commercials. Earlier this year that raised eyebrows with a humorous ad called ‘Ship My Pants’ to promote the store’s free online shipping service, which has over 19 million views since April.
So what do you think? Is Kmart’s ‘Show Your Joe’ ad funny or offensive? Watch and tell us what you think.
