There’s a brand new crew taking over mornings on CBS 2 News and this morning we introduced the new anchor lineup featuring Sharon Tay, Rick Garcia and meteorologist Evelyn Taft live on air!
Formerly of KCAL 9’s #1 news team at 8 and 10 p.m., the new lineup is swapping places with the current CBS 2 morning news team starting Monday, November 18th to host the 4:30-7:00 a.m. and 11-11:30 a.m. weekly newscasts.
“We’re looking forward to this. It’s going to be a fun challenge for us – the challenge part waking up – but we’re going to enjoy ourselves and hopefully the viewers will too,” said Rick.
The new installment is taking a more lighthearted and casual approach to their newscasts, not only delivering the hard-hitting news, but also the hot topics and stories that interest the viewers – car chases included.
“It’s going to be much more casual,” said Sharon.”We’re going to talk about stories and subjects that people want to talk about at work, they want to talk about it at the car wash.”
Not only does the new team get along so well on air, but they tell us they’re close friends off air and regularly go out to dinner, hang out on the weekends and even call each other up for advice.
So to help welcome and get the team ready to tackle their new early morning wake up call, Gary and Lisa presented the trio with a special gift – a “dream machine” alarm clock. They’re gonna need it!
Don’t forget to set your alarms to catch the new CBS 2 Morning News team starting this Monday at 4:30 – 7 a.m. Listen to our complete interview with the team in the clips below.
