This morning, newly released documents obtained by Radar online show what Tom Cruise said in a video deposition given two months ago in his lawsuit against Bauer Publishing.
Cruise recently filed a $50 million lawsuit against Life & Style and In Touch magazines for their 2012 headlines claiming he abandoned his then 6-year-old daughter Suri.
According to Vanity Fair, when asked why he spent just ten days with Suri between June and November of last year, Cruise says he spent as much time with her as his filming schedule and visitation agreement would allow.
In the deposition, Cruise explained that he would have had to at specific times flown from London to New York to see his daughter, which the interviewer asked “and that was something that was impossible to do?”
Cruise replied that unfortunately in this situation it was impossible. When asked why he could jet to a Scientology event and a movie premiere, but not make more time for Suri, Cruise responded “it’s just a different set of circumstances, it certainly does not mean that I have abandoned my daughter.”
The examiner also asked if his former wife Katie Holmes ever indicated that she divorce Cruise in order to protect Suri from Scientology, which Cruise said that “yes” that was one of her assertions.
The case is expected to be in court next year.
