Our guest Bob Kurkjian, the executive director USO Great Los Angeles, joined Gary Bryan in studio this morning to accept a $4,000 donation on the USO’s behalf from Commerce Casino in Gary’s name.
Last month, Gary participated in K-EARTH 101’s Future Stars Home Game Poker Tournament at Commerce Casino with fellow K-EARTH talent Tim “The Cabana Boy,” Bob Malik and Sylvia Aimerito leading the teams. Gary wound up being the last DJ left standing in the tournament, so Commerce Casino generously donated $4,000 to his favorite charity.
John Griffo of the Commerce Casino was also on the phone to present the donation to the USO, saying that “it’s exciting for us to be a part of that and for Gary to win it.”
Bob Hope Hollywood USO at LAX hosts close to 70,000 service members and their families at the center each year. Bob tells us this past year was one of the busiest the center has seen, particularly with first time service members heading out on their very first assignment.
“Our volunteers take them in like they are family,” said Bob. “We feed them, we treat them well, they get wifi – they can Skype…because a lot of these guys haven’t been home or seen their family in 9-10 months once they join the Marine Corp.”
