In what’s being described as an “epic yard sale,” participants of Oprah Winfrey’s lavish auction got a big surprise on Saturday when Oprah herself showed up to her own auction!
Oprah bid goodbye to hundreds of personal items she put up on the auction block with all proceeds going towards her charity the Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa.
Some of the biggest-selling items according to The L.A. Times included a set of six 18th-century Louis XVI armchairs with hand-embroidered details that went for $60,000; an enlarged print of a TV Guide photo of Oprah, with a $200-$400 estimate, went for $3,000; Crystal lamp bases (described as “simple”) that were expected to fetch $200-$400, went for $2,500; and two 13-ft. long sofas, upholstered in crushed velvet with roped fringe, brought in $8,750.
According to People, the auction took place on the polo grounds in Santa Barbara, Calif on Saturday. Overall, the auction brought in $600,000, which all went towards her foundation.
