Did You Know: “Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers

Our Halloween ‘Tickets @ 2’ song is “Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett & the Crypt-Kickers. Pickett was a nightclub entertainer, and a big horror movie fan. Pickett wrote the song with his friend Lenny Capizzi.

Pickett took the song to Gary Pazton, who was the lead singer of The Hollywood Argyles, who had the hit “Alley Oop.” The Crypt-Kickers were studio musicians Leon Russell, Johnny McCrae and Rickie Page.

The coffin being opened sound effect was made by pulling a rusty nail out of a lump wood with a claw hammer. The bubbling sounds came from blowing through a straw in a glass of water.

When you hear it play between two and three we’ll take caller #7 to win tickets to “Peace & Love, Ringo” at the Grammy Museum. Call in at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) Have a Goulish time!
