Today on ‘Tickets @ 2′ our song of the day is “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffett.
Buffett wrote the song in Key West, Florida after he finished a tour with the Coral Reefer Band. They had just toured Texas and before returning to Florida, Buffett spent some time drinking Margaritas in a Mexican restaurant with a friend. When he got back to Florida, he sat at the Old Anchor Inn watching gridlock on the roads – and that was the inspiration for the song.
His producer Norbert Putnam said: “It wasn’t a song – it’s a movie.”
In the late ’70s, the pop-tops were replaced with much safer non-removable pop-down/pop-in tabs, so if you blow out a flip-flop, no fear of stepping on one of those pull-off tops from beer and soda cans.
When you hear it play between two and three we’ll take caller #10 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to an upcoming L.A. Kings Hockey game as a guest of the National Brain Tumor Society.
