Elvis Presley Reigns King As Most Digitally Streamed Artist
More than fifty years later, and the King’s still got it. According to new research of the most digitally streamed artists, Elvis Presley beats out all other competition as the most listened to artist.
According to USA Today, the data collected by SoundExchange, “a performance rights organization that collects royalties from more than 2,000 digital music services,” found that Presley is the most frequently listened to artist across multiple platforms over the past decade.
Presley beat out the likes of iconic artists like Bruce Springsteen, who came in a close second, The Beatles, who came in at No. 8, and the Grateful Dead, who came in at No. 10.
It should be noted, however, that satellite radio, which SoundExchange licenses to, played a big part in the rankings. The top three acts all have dedicated music channels on the subscription radio service Sirus XM, as does the Grateful Dead.
Even still, the top ten is a balanced mixture of both classic and current artists, and proves that iconic artists have staying power even in the digital age.
Here are the top ten most digitally streamed artists:
- Elvis Presley
- Bruce Springsteen
- Pearl Jam
- Lil Wayne
- The Beatles
- Taylor Swift
- Grateful Dead
