Celebs Rejoice As New Paparazzi Bill Passes

After months of testimony, Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner can finally celebrate and breathe easy now that Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into effect aimed to protect the privacy of celebrity children.

According to the L.A. Times, under the new law it will make it a misdemeanor if paparazzi “photograph or videotape a child in a harassing manner if the image is being taken because the child’s parent is a celebrity or public official.”

Paparazzi who break the law, which goes into effect Jan. 1, could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.

While Berry and Garner were strong supporters of the bill, it was opposed by broadcasters and newspapers, citing the freedom of the press.
