All week long on CBS’ The Talk, the ladies have been revealing deep secrets about themselves no one’s ever heard before.
We’ve already heard about Sharon Osbourne’s “fling” with Jay Leno, and on Thursday episode, it was Julie Chen’s turn to share a secret.
Chen admitted a shocking tidbit that she had plastic surgery early in her career to make her eyes bigger after being told by her agent she would never anchor a news desk because of her “Asian eyes,” according to USA Today.
“And he said, ‘You will never be on this anchor desk, because you’re Chinese.’ He said ‘Let’s face it Julie, how relatable are you to our community? How big of an Asian community do we really have in Dayton?” Julie explained on the show. ” ‘On top of that because of your heritage, because of your Asian eyes, I’ve noticed that when you’re on camera, when you’re interviewing someone you look disinterested and bored because your eyes are so heavy, they are so small.’ ”
She added that a “big-time agent” told her, “I cannot represent you unless you get plastic surgery to make your eyes look bigger. And I did it.”
She admits that after having the surgery to make her eyes look bigger, she was offered more jobs. Though she had the surgery, Chen said that “no one is more proud to be Chinese than I am.”
