In honor of original MTV VJ Nina Blackwood’s 61st birthday today (Sept. 12), we got a little nostalgic for the days when MTV’s programming was centered around playing the hottest music videos from the biggest bands of the time.

We all know that the first music video to ever be played for MTV’s debut on August 1, 1981 was “Video Killed The Radio Star” by The Buggles, but can you remember what video followed it up?

It was none other than Pat Benatar with her remake of the 1966 Young Rascal’s hit “You Better Run.” The song was the first single released off Benatar’s 1980 album Crimes of Passion and introduced Benatar to the MTV generation as one of the fiercest female rockers around.

Seriously – Her skintight leather pants. Those killer combat boots. That hair and those cheekbones. And most importantly, that voice. Benatar was a rock idol to all and proved that rock and roll wasn’t just for the guys.

Let’s go back to 1981 and re-watch this classic video, shall we?
