Today on ‘Tickets @ 2’ it’s “The Joker” by The Steve Miller Band.

The line in the song, “I speak of the pompatus of love,” according to an article is a 2002 article for Los Angeles Magazine, the word “Pompatus” does exist in the Oxford English Dictionary, and it means “to act with pomp and splendor.”

The Pompatus Of Love is also the name of a 1995 movie starring Jon Cryer.

Steve Miller told Mojo magazine last year: “I got this funny, lazy, sexy little tune, but it didn’t come together until a party in Novato, north of San Francisco. I sat on the hood of a car under the stars with an acoustic guitar making up lyrics and ‘I’m a joker, I’m a smoker, I’m a midnight toker’ came out.” He added “It was just a goof.”

When we play it between two and three we’ll take lucky caller thirteen at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see The Spinners Friday August 23rd at the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles.
