Keith Richards: Style Icon? Rocker Makes Vanity Fair’s ‘Best Dressed’ List
Vanity Fair rolled out this year’s picks for its annual ‘International Best Dressed’ list, which features the usual supermodels, legendary fashion designers, pop stars and celebrities. Though, tucked away between all the usual suspects like Beyonce, Gisele Bundchen and Kate, The Duchess Of Cambridge, is a surprising and unlikely choice; Rolling Stone guitarist, Keith Richards.
Yes, Richards, 69, made the cut at No.5 (!), his first appearance ever on the prestigious list, reports Yahoo. While Richards’ style is certainly eclectic and one of a kind, he’s definitely an nontraditional addition to the list. However, it’s those original icons the magazine applauds.
“While not the traditional, Savile-Row tailored best-dressed man, Keith Richards embodies what it means to be a fashion original,” says the magazine’s deputy editor, Aimee Bell. “His avant-garde look has been consistent over many decades.”
She’s right. Have you ever seen Richards without a colorful bandana wrapped around his tousled hair (sometimes adorned with a fedora)? Or his signature trench jackets, scarves and skinny jeans? The guy can also accessorize like a pro with various chains around his neck and is never without his trademark silver skull ring.
Not to mention, to be a style icon means to inspire others with your look, which Richards certainly has. Actor Johnny Depp has long said that Richards was the inspiration behind the look and sound of his notable Pirates of the Caribbean character, Captain Jack Sparrow. We think Depp even adopted a little of Richards’ bohemian style in his own life as well.
Besides, he doesn’t need to be told that he’s a fashion inspiration, he already knows. When asked who was his personal style icon, he responded, “Why should I? I am one.”
