Did You Know: “Philadelphia Freedom” By Elton John

This afternoon between two and three listen for Elton John’s “Philadelphia Freedom” on ‘Tickets @ 2.’

Elton suggested the song title to his lyricist Bernie Taupin in honor of his friend, tennis player Billie Jean King. King coached a team called the “Philadelphia Freedoms” in the World Team Tennis organization in 1974.

A year later was the American bicentennial celebrating 200 years of independence.

Elton John and Billie Jean King became good friends after meeting at a party.

When you hear the # 1 hit play between two and three we’ll take caller # 10 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see the Pacific Symphony perform Beethoven, from Rock to Bach at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre this Sunday.
