Hit ’80s New Wave band A Flock of Seagulls were the targets of a theft in Downey Sunday morning after their van containing thousands of dollars of musical equipment was stolen from the parking lot of a hotel.

The band, who scored a hit in the ’80s with “I Ran (So Far Away),” had performed a show in Bellflower Sunday night and parked their van in the parking lot a Comfort Inn that night only to awake in the morning to find it missing.

“It’s scary how quick it is. We’re talking about 30 seconds to actually get in and drive off,” guitarist Joe Rodriguez told CBS LA.

The hotel’s security cameras show the suspects breaking in to the band’s 1999 Ford E-350 van with Florida license plates, get inside and then drive away around 2:15 a.m.

The vehicle contained over $70,000 worth of musical instruments, equipment, plus two computer hard drives containing unreleased music from lead singer Mike Score’s upcoming solo project.

“It’s 18 months work. My first-ever solo project…it may be just thrown in the bin by somebody,” said Score. “If those guys who stole our van are out there, give us our stuff back and let us go on and be a band.”
