Neil Diamond’s classic hit “Sweet Caroline” has been a favorite baseball stadium anthem for years, but has recently become a song of solidarity in recent months after the Boston Marathon Bombings.
The song, which has been played in Boston’s Fenway Park during the eight inning of every Red Sox game since 2002, has brought many baseball fans together since the attack, with many stadiums around the country also playing the song during games. Neil also performed the song live at Fenway Park as a tribute to Boston in the wake of the attacks.
Neil was back again for the 2013 All-Star game at New York’s Citi Field on Tuesday, stepping out on to the infield to sing his classic during the eighth inning. The stadium’s over 45,000 fans in attendance all rose to their feet to join Neil in the massive sing-a-long of “Sweet Caroline” while players from the National and American Leagues watched from the dugouts.
