Today’s ‘Tickets @ 2′ song is a classic by The Kingsmen, it’s “Louie Louie.”

It was written by a Los Angeles R & B singer by the name o0f Richard Berry (no relation to Chuck) in 1955. His group was called The Pharaohs, their version got some radio airplay when it was released in 1957. Various garage bands heard the song and covered it, it became a phenom with the Kingsmen’s version in 1964. Much of the songs notoriety comes from indecipherable lyrics. In Berry’s version it’s quite clear the song is about a sailor who spends days traveling to Jamaica to see his girl.

The song was rumored to have obscene lyrics, the FBI tried to track down Richard Berry, The Kingsmen, and various record company executives to determine the actual lyrics. The Kingsmen say there is nothing lewd in the song. Even if there are lewd lyrics in the song the FBI couldn’t prove it.

When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller #7 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a 4-Pack of tickets to see Dream Works Animation’s new movie “Turbo” courtesy of the Auto Club.
